The Great Saint John Fire of 1877 was arguably the worst 19th century urban fire in North America. The presentation uses many images created in the 1800s to bring this lost story alive and capture why the Great Fire was such an important and terrifying event in the history of the Maritimes.

What would you have done if you had been caught up in the Great Fire? Where would you have gone? What choices would you have made? What would have been your fate? This presentation will provide the answers to these questions as we explore how one could have survived the Great Saint John Fire of 1877.
